A Journey to accidental happiness

The journey you are about to read is essentially a journey to nowhere but at the same time a journey where you can experience serendipity defined as the gift of making fortunate discoveries by accident and magic can happen.

My own journey began in my island home of Serendib, the ancient name given to Sri Lanka by the Arab traders. By sharing the story of my early life and the environment I was brought up in, I hope to give the reader a greater context for what was to later unfold. Everyone has their own version of Serendib, the place where their journey begins and is the centre of their own mythology.  After all, it’s the childhood experiences that shape our later life.

We all have roots. Our ancestors are part of a lineage that goes way back – in my case beyond Sri Lanka and India – and form the deepest teachings of many spiritual traditions. It is a form of ancestral worship,  which really just means ‘remembering’. As the Buddha said “We are the result of what we were and will be the result of what we are”.

As my journey unfolded I was to experience many serendipitous moments (happy accidents).  When the receptivity, openness and senses are most acute we are most able to receive the gifts of these moments and then act on them. A journey to nowhere is the grand adventure and is a way of falling in love with the world and everything in it.

The idea of going nowhere is really quite simple.  It’s making that choice of leaving a busy world, turning inward and choosing simply to be. Our modern world is now going forward full throttle and we are obsessed with speed. We are living the fast life instead of the good life, missing those serendipitous moments that can bring great happiness.

In a fast paced world, nothing can be more relaxing than simply slowing down. With constant distractions from social media, digital connection and over packed schedules, nothing can beat the act of giving something full attention, no matter how short a time that is and nothing can beat the magic of stillness and calm. On the journey to nowhere, the experience of serendipity can simply be fueled by the spirit of curiosity: such an underrated tool in our society.

In this book, I want to share some of my serendipitous experiences with you and show how we can open our hearts and minds to it’s opportunities. I want to leave you in a state of constant anticipation, feeling  that ‘something good is about to happen.’

As I started journaling my experiences of serendipity I began asking others of theirs. I have included some of their stories told to me directly and I pass them onto encourage you that serendipity is certainly in the air. Whatever it is love, success, business connections and great friendships are all entirely possible and just around the corner. The world is pulsing with attainable serendipitous miracles and you can anywhere and anytime accidentally stumble onto treasures that can bring great happiness.

The Way of the Sacred Warrior by Ron Ragel

Ron Ragel was born and raised in Sri Lanka where his family lived in an area surrounded by churches, temples, mosques and other places of worship. It was this environment along with the religious practices of his family and the influence of those of their neighbours, friends and servants from many diverse religious traditions, that shaped his early world view and provided him with a permanent and inspiring view of everything that was ‘sacred’.

Moving to Australia in the seventies, secularism gradually took root in him. Having rejected conventional religion he would later experience a life changing epiphany in America. His life would change forever as he experienced an inner clarity about the bondage of human experience and how freedom could be found.

This meeting with destiny ignited his search for the meaning of life which brought up many challenges, including a stint in hospital for several weeks, an experience that would take him into totally uncharted territory.

It was an experience of being like a little child all over again as he had also lost significant movement on the right side of his body. He was able to move forward by harnessing the best possible tools he could find.

These would unlock the innate capacity we all possess for health, well-being and prosperity. The journey was helped through an integrated practice of breathwork, meditation, music therapy and lifestyle changes.

As he progressed he knew that it would provide a road map to a freer life for anyone who also wished to take the journey. He now offers an invitation to each of us to live our own unique destiny which is now detailed in “The Way of the Sacred Warrior,” filled with fascinating insights as to how to live life with meaning and purpose.

It is a book that inspires and feeds the soul and is a must read for anyone interested in living consciously in peace, prosperity and happiness.

How should we best live our lives?

The answers are there for those who truly want the experience, just listen and learn.

Ron Ragel is an author, educator and a multi-skilled musician, committed to living the life of a Sacred Warrior. His latest book “The Way of the Sacred Warrior” provides essential and practical tools for a journey towards a happier and more consciously fulfilled life.
